After they had been missing for two days, the water lowered and her ex-husband saw tires sticking out from the water and called 911. They were all still in the car; the baby was still in his carseat. My sister was 29; the children were 6 years old, 2 years old and 6 months old. In 1995, my younger sister had died from Toxic Shock Syndrome. She left behind two children. Then, in 1999, my parents house burned to the ground. They had no insurance and now are living in my dad's mother's old house. It really is in bad shape, but it is all they have. I am thankful I still have both my parents. I am the only child left. They are trying to raise the granddaughter, who is 14. The little boy is with his father. I know how hard it has been for them as the holidays come. Prayers really do help. My mother's faith is strong. I never was really sociable for the past two years I've been in high school and the last time I had some friends was back in elementary school, but that didn't last too long toward the end of elementary school. Since that time, I was having a really hard time finding some friends until this year...I couldn't have asked for more. Finding a wonderful group of friends who I am always happy to see...they've made my life a whole lot happier and if someone came to me while I was with my friends, and they asked me, 'are these your friends?' I'd say 'yes, and I proud that they are and to say they are.' That is what I am thankful for this Thanksgiving.

In January, I found out that it would be a baby girl (what I have hoped and dreamed for). Then, at 18 weeks, I started to show signs of pre-term larbor. I was put on complete bed rest in January. Six weeks later I started to have contractions again and had to get transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital. In March, I gave birth to my new little miricle baby girl at just barely 25 weeks. I got little hope from the doctors that she would survive and even was presented with the option of making her comfortable and letting her die! My husband and I decided that she was here for a reason and that we wanted everything that could be done to keep her here done (no matter what). Our positive thinking along with faith in God helped our 1 lb, 8 oz. baby pull through. She stayed in the hospital for five months and on August 12th "baby girl Jessica" came home to join our family. We are so thankful and blessed that God gave us two miricles in our life. Our son Jessiah, who was born at 28 weeks; and Jessica who was born at 25 weeks. This Thanksgiving will be a time of great joy and sharing our home with family and friends...as we celebrate getting through tough times in 2006!"

  • From Lisa Mitchell of Berlin, Maryland
    • "I don't think that I have anything to be thankful for this year; however, that sounds so selfish. You see, my father died on October 26, 2006 this year. He was taken from us only after being diagnosed on September 26, 2006 with stage four lung cancer. As a family, we are mourning, we are angry, and we are lost without our beloved. However, I am a mom, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend, etc. and I love life each day to its fullest. The people in my life are precious to me and I am thankful to have them. I am even thankful for those I have only had brief encounter with over the years. They came into my life for a purpose and; moreover, God has a purpose for each of on earth. Even though we don't want our loved ones ever to die, we must go on and be thankful for each day. We will celebrate Thanksgiving this year with an empty heart but will be thankful for the 67 years my father graced so many people. So, for this reason, I am thankful that my father was a part of my life. We love you dad. "

  • From Malcolm of Jackson, Mississippi
    • "Good afternoon, I so happy to be able tell the world that I am grateful to be able to give to others. I dont have money to give away but I do know the blessing s of sowing seeds and sacrificing to help somebody who really neds it. Last week a co-worker asked to borrow $250. I had $250 in my pocket but it was for my car note that was past due. I knew that she needed it so I told her I would give her $200 of it. I could not afford to do that, but I felt I had to. I feel so thankful to able to help others."
