FITCHBURG, MASS. (WHDH) - A suspect who has been on the run for three years was caught in Fitchburg, according to state police.
State police said the suspect was the subject of an outstanding federal warrant for distribution of cocaine, and he has been at large for approximately three years.
The Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS) recently began assisting the US Marshals Service in locating the suspect.
According to state police, the VFAS Central Team learned he could be found at a home on Wallace Street in Fitchburg.
Troopers from the VFAS Central Team and the State Police Leominster Barracks, along with the US Marshals Task Force, went to the address shortly before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
When troopers knocked on the door, they heard movement inside the apartment, but no one came to the door.
A short time later, the suspect came out of a second floor window onto the porch. As troopers approached him, he jumped from the porch in an attempt to escape.
A trooper grabbed the suspect’s sweatpants, and held him in place until other officers arrived below. The suspect held on to the porch with one hand and tried to pull himself up, but fell onto the ground where he was immediately apprehended.
Police identified the suspect as Thomas Martin of Wallace Street.
