METHUEN, Mass. (WHDH) — A suspect was injured in a police-involved shooting in Methuen Thursday evening, according to police.

The shooting happened at the Summit Place Apartments. Police said officers were at the apartments to talk to the 36-year-old suspect, James Dobbins, who was connected to a convenience store robbery that happened earlier in the day. Police said he asked them to come to his apartment so he could turn himself in.

According to police, there was a “violent confrontation” between an officer and the suspect. Police said the suspect brandished a gun and pointed it at the officer. The officer then shot the suspect.

Police say Dobbins was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The four detectives are on administrative leave as the DA’s office investigates.

None of the responding officers were injured.
