NEW YORK (WHDH) - Loved ones are holding out hope for a missing college student in New York City, who has not been heard from in more than a week.

Nayla Kidd, 19, is an engineering student at Columbia University. Friends reported her missing a week ago. Kidd’s mother said she last spoke to her a month ago about rent money. She has not heard from her since.

“For her to just be missing right now, I cannot wrap my head around that at all,” said Dr. LaCreis Kidd.

Kidd’s friends set up a page on Facebook called “Finding Nayla” and the university sent out an email alert. Kidd’s mother has gotten help from a private investigator and she also pleaded for her daughter’s return.

“Please come home. Call family or somebody. Please come home. We’ll work it out, I promise you, we will work it out,” Dr. LaCreis Kidd told reporters.

The NYPD said Kidd’s family is cooperating with the investigation.
