A survey released earlier this week has found that Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker is the nation’s most popular governor.
According to Morning Consult, the Republican governor has the support of 72 percent of Massachusetts residents, which is just one percentage point ahead of Republican governor Larry Hogan of Maryland. Matt Mead (R-WY), Jack Markell (D-DE) and Gary Herbert (R-UT) are the other most popular governors in the nation.
According to the survey results, just 16 percent of residents in the Bay State disapprove of Baker’s job thus far.
The most unpopular governors in the nation belong to Sam Brownback (R-KS), Dan Malloy (D-CT), Rick Snyder (R-MI), Chris Christie (R-NJ) and Paul LePage (R-ME).
Morning Consult says the survey took place from Januay to early May and included 66,000 voters in all 50 states.
Republican governors held 8 of the top 10 spots nationwide. Among Republican governors who ran for president in this election cycle, John Kasich is the most popular at 61 percent and saw little change. Wisconsin’s Scott Walker also saw little change and has an approval rating of 43 percent. New Jersey governor Chris Christie saw his approval drop four points from 36 to 32 percent.
