A woman was rescued by firefighters after her car tipped into a canal in Fall River.

Witnesses said the car broke down and people tried helping the woman by pushing the car into the parking lot of the Cove Restaurant. While some people pushed the car, a man climbed inside and pushed the brakes but the car would not stop, sending it over a ledge and into the water of the Taunton River.

The man managed to jump out of the car but the woman was left inside. Firefighters rushed to the scene and threw the woman a rope to pull her to safety. Witnesses said the woman remained calm in the car.

The woman told 7News that she is going back to the hospital Tuesday to get her injuries looked at. She also said she is thankful to everyone who helped her.
