Police continue their search for a Plymouth man accused of stabbing his neighbor to death.
Police said 24-year-old Tyler Hagmaier stabbed his 76-year-old neighbor Vibeke Rasmussen more than 35 times late Thursday night. Neighbors told police they heard screaming. Rasmussen’s body was found in her apartment Friday after she did not show up for work as a professor at Quincy Junior College that morning.
Police said Hagmaier lived across the hall from Rasmussen. They do not know a motive but said Hagmaier has a history of mental health issues and violence.
Plymouth police say in the past they’ve used a taser and a beanbag gun when Hagmaier turned violent, but they say he always seemed intent on hurting himself, not others.
Hagmaier’s car was tracked to western Massachusetts, where it was found parked at the French King Bridge in Gill. Witnesses told police they heard a splash into the water. State Police dive teams searched the Connecticut River Sunday but no body was found.
Police believe Hagmaier may have been suicidal. They say anyone who comes in contact with him should consider him very dangerous.
The murder weapon has not been found, and they are not saying if any evidence has been recovered from Hagmaier’s car.
