A Maine man was arrested after police said a triple shooting in Duxbury left two people injured.
Police said 25-year-old Lucas McPherson first opened fire on a 33-year-old Marshfield man, who was driving on Tremont Street near town hall at around 1 a.m. Sunday. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach and drove to the fire department for help.
While investigating, a Duxbury police officer saw a suspicious car stop and turn around before taking off as the officer tried to stop him. The car was then tracked to Tobey Garden Street. Police said a second victim approached officers and said he had been shot by the suspect while he was letting his dog out. A Pembroke woman’s car was also shot at but no one was injured.
McPherson allegedly came at a police officer with a hunting knife and got tased and arrested. His car with temporary Maine plates was towed from the scene and a shotgun was allegedly found in the car.
McPherson was hospitalized after he allegedly attacked two Duxbury officers in the booking room. He now faces 14 charges, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
A judge ordered a 20-day psychiatric evaluation of McPherson.
Police said there is no indication that McPherson knew any of his victims. The man shot on Tremont Street was treated and released at the hospital. The resident who was shot remains hospitalized but is expected to be released soon.
