A court psychologist is evaluating a Lowell man to see if he is competent to stand trial following threats made against a Lowell school.
On Thursday, the Lowell Police Department was contacted by school officials at the Pawtucketville Elementary School, who reported having threats made to the school and students on a school website.
According to police, the posts indicated the suspect was going to "shoot up the school," claiming to have a rifle.
Although it is school vacation week, the building had more than three dozen children attending a school program.
Following a soft lockdown of the building, the children were evacuated to another school in the city.
The suspect was identified through his post and was eventually located.
Robert McDaniel, 36 of Lowell, was placed under arrest for communicating a threat involving a firearm causing disruption of a school.
Police have indicated that McDaniel has no weapons, nor does he have access to weapons, but he was arrested anyway out of an abundance of caution.
McDaniel will be arraigned Friday afternoon following his mental evaluation.
