A student was stabbed by another student Wednesday morning at West Roxbury Academy according to Boston Public Schools.

Witnesses said the two students got into a fight in the hallway and one of the students pulled out a kitchen knife. The student who allegedly committed the stabbing was arrested.

A school nurse treated the stabbing victim. A witness told 7News that the student was bleeding from the abdomen. Police said the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.

The school complex was placed into safe mode after the incident. Students were kept in classrooms for at least an hour and the school sent an alert to parents, letting them know about the stabbing.

School officials said there are metal detectors at the school and they are investigating how the student was able to bring the knife into the building.

School counselors are being made available for any students and staff who would like to discuss the incident, according to the school system.
