State lawmakers are calling for a freeze on plans to relocate rattlesnakes to Massachusetts.

The snakes would live on an island in the Quabbin Reservoir.

In a letter to the Massachusetts Energy and Environmental Affairs office, the lawmakers from that area expressed their concerns about the potential threat the snakes would pose to hikers, fishermen and others.

The lawmakers also want to know more about the venomous snakes’ ability to leave the island.

They are asking for a freeze on the plan until an oversight hearing on the issue, scheduled for May.
