State Senator Brian Joyce confirmed on Twitter Tuesday that he will not seek re-election.

"I will continue to work hard for Milton and all of the district but will not seek re-election," Joyce said.

Last week, the FBI and IRS conducted an investigation at the Canton law office of Massachusetts State Sen. Brian Joyce.

According to the FBI, the agencies conducted "court authorized activity in connection with an ongoing federal investigation."

The FBI provided no further comment.

Political watchdog group Common Cause told 7News that there have been ethics issues and allegations surrounding Joyce, a Democrat, before. In January, Joyce agreed to pay nearly $5,000 for using campaign funds to pay for his son’s high school graduation party back in 2014.

Joyce remedied the issues by making a $5,000 contribution to a charity or reimbursing the money, according to Common Cause.
