A police chase ended with a big crash in Abington Tuesday night.
According to police, around 2 a.m. on Wednesday a police officer saw a Toyota Rav4 speed past him on Route 18. The officer pulled the vehicle over on Main Street.
When the officer got out of his car, the vehicle sped away.
The officer stopped pursuing the vehicle and lost sight of the car near the Weymouth-Abington line on Route 18.
Minutes later, the officer saw an electrical transformer explode from a distance. When he arrived, he found that the car had struck two utility poles and had flipped on its side.
The driver and the passenger were taken to South Shore Hospital. The driver suffered serious injuries.
Police said the driver told them he thought he had a warrant and did not want to go to jail right before his birthday, which is next week. Officers discovered the driver has a suspended license.
The driver, Jevaun Jacques, 24 of Dorchester, was issued a citation at the hospital, charging him with operating with a suspended license, failure to stop for police, operating to endanger, and speeding.
At the time of the incident the vehicle was entered as stolen out of Brockton. It was later determined the vehicle was not stolen and the owner had loaned them the vehicle.
