Police are searching for a gunman who shot a taxi driver in Worcester.

Police were called to Stockton Street at around 10 p.m. Monday night. Officials said the 62-year-old cab driver was dispatched to the address assuming he was going to pick up a customer, but was approached by a male suspect who then tried to rob him.

According to police, the suspect had his face covered, making it difficult to identify who they are looking for.

The suspect shot the driver during the struggle.

Police said the driver was still conscious and in his car when they arrived at the scene. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It’s the third incident within 48 hours in which a cab or livery driver was attacked. There were two separate attacks on Saturday, when two livery drivers were approached, one by knifepoint, one by gunpoint. Neither driver was hurt.

Police are investigating whether the series of incidents are linked.
