Two women are facing charges after police said they found drugs in a filthy apartment in Worcester.

Sheyla Montalvo, 24, and another woman living at an apartment on King Street had been under police surveillance. Officers said when they arrived at the apartment they found three young children living in conditions described as deplorable.

Police said the apartment’s floors, including in the children’s bedroom, were covered in animal feces. They also allegedly found the apartment infested with mice and police reported hearing mice running around in the ceiling.

Police said they found pills and other drugs in the apartment, along with cash. Montalvo and the other woman were placed under arrest. The children, who are 3, 5, and 6 years old, were placed in DCF custody because of the conditions in the apartment.

Friends said Montalvo had been going through a rough time and they had never seen her apartment looking like this. Montalvo’s family and friends are now cleaning up the Worcester apartment in hopes of getting the children back.
