Several Worcester residents are crying foul over their cars being towed during a snow storm.

Several students from Clark University say their cars were towed on Jan. 18 after the city declared a parking ban during a snow storm. However, students say they were not notified of the ban, which they say went into effect at 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 17, until 1 a.m. on Jan. 18.

Clark student Dave Eschen said he woke up on Monday and learned his car has been towed. He had to pay $132 to recover his car and was issued a $50 ticket.

Another Clark student, Tyler Hutchinson, objected to the ban.

"The roads were not really bad," he said.

Several students at Assumption College say they managed to move their cars before they could be towed. Student Brittany King, however, took issue with how the ban was implemented.

"They declared a ban at 11:30 p.m. at night but their message did not go out until 1 a.m.," she said.

The city manager’s office issued a student on Monday about the incident.

"On occasion, the timing of the declaration does not allow residents ample time to move their vehicles. Therefore, general forgiveness is being granted for all tickets issued in relation to the parking ban declared between Jan. 17 and 18."

In a statement from the city manager’s office, city leaders admit they made a mistake saying,

"On occasion, the timing of the declaration does not allow residents ample time to move their vehicles… Therefore, general forgiveness is being granted for all tickets issued in relation to the parking ban declared between January 17th and 18th."

The ban has since been lifted.
