Lowell High School is responding to a rumor about a threat of an attack on Jan. 14.

In a statement to parents, the school said students notified school administration in December they had heard a rumor regarding a threat to the school.

"We take all threats seriously and following protocol, the Central Office administration and the Lowell Police Department were immediately notified," the school said.

The school said police have conducted an investigation into the threat and said it is not credible, but extra police will be assigned to the high school on Thursday.
