Crews are on the scene of a fire that displaced more than 15 people in Jamaica Plain Saturday night.

The fire started just after 10:00 p.m. at a four-story brick apartment building on Centre Street.

Smoke quickly filled the building.

The fire was heavy when crews arrived and they worked quickly to put the flames out.

One man was trapped for a short time, but he was able to get out safely.

Deputy Fire Chief Andre Stallworth said some people suffered minor injuries.

"We had a couple of people suffered smoke inhalation,” Stallworth said. “Boston EMS handled them. We have an assistance unit coming to help some of the displaced people and we’ll get everyone some place to go tonight."

Fire officials said the fire started on the first floor.

The cause is still under investigation.
