A 27-year-old East Providence mother has been charged with child endangerment after allegedly leaving her 8-month old baby girl inside a cold car at the Wrentham outlets.

At around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wrentham Police got a report of a shopper seeing a baby left alone in car that was parked in a handicapped spot.

The baby was crying as temperatures were in the teens, police said. Police said the baby was wearing a snowsuit.

When police arrived at the scene, the mother came to the car. The mother had been inside a store for 10 minutes, police said.

"She just said she did not understand she was breaking a law," said Wrentham Deputy Police Chief Bill McGrath.

Police say they do not think she was trying to hurt her child.

The baby was taken to Norwood Hospital and is expected to be OK.

The Department of Children and Families has been notified, according to police

Police also issued the woman a ticket for parking in a handicapped spot.
