The father of a victim killed in the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School has been nominated for two Grammy awards for music he created to cope with his grief.

“When Ana was killed, there’s a lot of emotions obviously. Debilitating grief and pain and shock are some of the first that hit,” said Jimmy Greene, a saxophonist who lost his 6-year-old daughter in the 2012 shooting.

Twenty children and six adults were killed in the shooting.

To cope with his grief, Greene made music featuring recordings of his daughter and son, Isaiah, who survived the shooting.

“I remember writing some of the lyrics with a face full of tears. It was very emotional and it was draining to do at times,” Greene said.

Eventually, Greene, who works as the jazz program coordinator at Western Connecticut State University, turned the music into an album titled “A Beautiful Life.”
