Do holiday parties have you feeling a bit like Jabba The Hutt?

Boston Sports Club has a new class that might be the fix.

It’s the “Awaken Your Inner Force” workout, and it’s free!

“It’s going to be a very challenging workout, but we start with the basics and help you work your way up”, says fitness instructor Cassie Brown.

So, how exactly does one use The Force to fight the fat?

Brown says you’ll use the flow to build power and strength.

“We’re moving with lightsabers, so we’re going to be swinging those around, getting our arms involved in the movements a little more than you normally would with squats and lunges and things like that” she says.

“That’s definitely going to be more Star Wars inspired, and then, of course, there’s music in the background!”

To keep the blood pumping they keep the bass thumping, using all kinds of Star Wars themed music throughout.

After doing some Jedi Jacks, Chewbacca Chops and Han Solo Squats.. it’s on to some real Jedi trials!

Now, don’t expect to be moving any rocks with you mind like Luke Skywalker on Dagobah.

But you will learn some Tai Chi lightsaber moves!

Brown hopes fans might be inspired to put the popcorn down and pick up a healthy habit.

“The gym can be an intimidating space for a lot of people”, she says.

“Coming into a space like this and doing something that you are familiar with – you know, you watch these movies and enjoy these movies and doing things that are a little more familiar to you in a new space might make the introduction to the new space a little easier.”

The class kicks off on Friday and runs through January. It is free to anyone – you don’t even have to be a member of Boston Sports Club to sign up.
