Imagine getting a shot, and shedding unwanted pounds.
Lirglutide, or brand name saxenda, received FDA approval last year and passed another round of testing this summer, so it is now on the market as an injectable weight-loss drug for obese patients.
According to the study in the New York Journal of Medicine, participants were given a reduced-calorie diet and an increased exercise regimen, along with either saxenda or a placebo.
Those who got a daily shot lost an average of 18 and a half pounds over 56 weeks.
Those taking a placebo lost 6 pounds.
So is this the answer to America’s growing waist line?
Compared to other drugs and weight-loss procedures, it’s not showing the same results.
Regardless of drugs and weight-loss procedures, losing weight is a hard task and keeping it off is even harder.
The active ingredient is saxenda, liraglutide, has been used for a few years to treat Type 2 diabetes.
