Police said a man was shot and killed and a woman was injured in a shooting in Dorchester Tuesday and the shooter reportedly set the building on fire.

The fire started on the first floor of a building on Harvard Street. The gunshot victim was found in the same apartment.

“I just heard an altercation with a female and a male and then I heard a young man on the third floor yelling,” said witness Kristeen Petit-Frere.

Firefighters had to bring a ladder up to the building’s third floor to rescue the 16-year-old boy. No one was injured by the fire.

Police said the two victims had a baby together. The woman, who police believe suffered a minor gunshot wound, was taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She is being interviewed by police about the incident.

Police are looking for as many as three suspects. They are also investigating a tip that the suspect or suspects dressed up as utility workers to gain access to the apartment.
