Mayor Thomas Menino will be remembered for many things, including his work in the neighborhoods of Boston, specifically in Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan.

Crime in these communities is now declining thanks to community policing and his mandate of putting more officers on the streets.

You don’t have to go far to find someone who met him.

“I’m very happy I was able to know him and he’s a good man, in fact, a man of the people,” said one resident.

As a man of the people, Menino wanted to revitalize the Dudley Square area. Today shops are busy and so are construction crews, some of them working on the new school department headquarters.

Folks say Menino made a difference in their neighborhoods and their lives and are hoping Mayor Marty Walsh will now follow in his footsteps.

“He helped a lot of people. He was like another Kennedy, he was a good person,” said another resident.
