Today’s heat had many doing a double take on the calendar. If this is September, bring back August!

Some of the most humid air of the season is with us tonight. This sticky are is every bit as humid as what we saw mid summer around the 4th of July. Even when relief comes midweek, we’ll still only see a slight dip in the muggy air, so keep the A/Cs running and the pool open this week.

Last night’s tornado had everyone jumping again. It’s odd that the tornado hit the city of Worcester 48 years to the day of the last one to strike the city. Goes to show, you can never let your guard down on these brief “spin-ups”, as we meteorologists call them. As far as the frequency is concerned, we typically get 3 per year in Mass, so this is nearly up to snuff. As far as them hitting urban centers (Revere and now Worcester), remember what the late Theodore Fujita (who devised the Fujita tornado intensity scale) said, “They can happen anywhere and at any time”.

Severe storms take a back seat to the heat and humidity for the time being. Highs again soar to near 90 tomorrow and then “cool” to the mid 80s by the middle of the week. After a brief respite Wed/Thu, the sticky air comes back for more to finish the shortened workweek.

Stay cool!
Pete
