Fin sighted, swimmers forced out of water at Duxbury Beach

Posted: Updated:
DUXBURY, Mass. (WHDH) -

Thursday afternoon around 4:30 the Duxbury Fire Department announced that a possible shark fin had been spotted near the beach. Officials say it was an on-duty lifeguard that spotted something and cleared the beach.

This sighting was near the same area where a great white shark was confirmed Monday afternoon.

The Duxbury Harbormaster said they believe this was another ocean sunfish, similar to the one spotted Wednesday in Marshfield.

After Monday's sighting officials told 7News 2-3 sharks are spotted in the area each year, but this was the first time a great white shark had caused them to pull everyone out of the water.
