Summer sizzler! Boston did it again. We hit 90 or better for the 5th time in this warm season. Compare that to 14 in a normal year and 18 last year. Certainly not a cool summer, but one a lot cooler than last year.
Amidst the heat and humidity, a few storms fired in Worcester County and headed east along and north of Rt. 20:
Non-severe and worthy of a good light show, these storms are running on empty. The cool front that fired them up is still out in Western Mass, so the farther they get from that area of uplift, the more they weaken.
But if your garden’s parched and the lawn’s dead, there’s still hope. When that front arrives in Eastern Mass, it could flare up a few isolated storms between 9 and midnight. It’s a chance, but not a guarantee. Best we can hope for in this dry pattern.
Cristobal is the latest hurricane roaming the Western Atlantic, and with his track staying far out over the fish, there’s not much to worry about….unless you plan on making it a beach day tomorrow. Wave sets are emanating from the storm’s center, have already arrived on Block Island:
Waves will continue to build tonight and tomorrow, so beware of rip currents and high surf through Friday morning. No messing around here folks, waves could build to 9-10 feet!
There are reasons for optimism in the weekend forecast. Heat tries to build back for at least a couple of days (Sat/Sun), AND the wet hours seem to be limited to LATE Sunday and off and on on Monday. It’s not a washout, but it’s not completely ideal either. We’ll make do and fine tune the forecast as we close in on the last weekend of summer.
