WINCHENDON, Mass. (WHDH) -
A licensed Massachusetts veterinarian is facing animal cruelty charges after the MSPCA discovered violations.
Officers discovered sick, injured and dead animals on Dr. Michaela Krafve's farm in Winchendon. Now she is facing 15 counts of animal cruelty.
Krafve didn't want to talk about it outside the courtroom Friday, but investigators say photos they took outside Heart and Soul Acres Farm tell the story; pens covered in feces, no food, water or shelter for dozens of animals, some too weak up stand up.
The MSPCA also found 19 goats and sheep crammed in a hot trailer without adequate ventilation with one bucket of water that was knocked over. They even say they discovered animal bones and a dead baby lamb.
This isn't the first time inspectors found animals in poor shape at Krafve's farm. In 2008 investigators took pictures of rabbits stacked in cages in the snow with no shelter and caged chickens huddled together in snowbanks.
It wasn't just farm animals found in unsanitary conditions, investigators also found a kennel Krafve used for her three dogs that was covered in filth and blood.
Most of the animals have been removed from the farm. The MSPCA says their investigation is continuing.
"We are filing these charges now because the defendant has failed to comply with previous deadlines to safeguard and care for her animals. We are now preparing the strongest case possible,” the MSPCA said.
Krafve is due back in court Oct. 3, until then the judge has ordered the remaining animals on her farm be inspected at least once a week.
