Elderly man victim of carjacking in Saugus

SAUGUS, Mass. (WHDH) - Saugus Police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying a suspect involved in the carjacking of a 90-year-old man Tuesday morning.

Officials said that at approximately 8 a.m., there was a reported carjacking in the parking lot of the Stop & Shop on Main Street.

The victim was found bleeding on the sidewalk and told officers that a man took his brown 2001 Ford Focus and drove off. The Massachusetts license plate number is 868NHV.

“He pulled my key out of the socket because he knew I had the door unlocked and he pushed me and jumped in the car and drove off,” the victim said.

He described the suspect as a white male with dark hair, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and wearing long pants.

The victim declined transportation to a hospital.

“It was a cowardly act. It's a 90-year-old gentlemen and it's a coward that would do something like that to and injure an elderly man that was just getting food for himself,” a police official said.

Anyone who may have seen what happened, or who may have seen the vehicle in question, is urged to call Saugus Police at (781) 941-1199.
