Expendables 3 stars pitch movie and baseballs in Miami

Posted: Updated:

MIAMI (WSVN) -- Stars from The Expendables 3 are in South Florida to promote their new movie, but they are also giving another kind of pitch.

Antonio Banderas and Kellan Lutz are promoting the movie that could be a summer blockbuster, and on Wednesday they visited Marlins Park to participate in the ceremonial first pitch, proving they like action both on and off the big screen. "It's my first time in a baseball stadium, it's a sport that I don't understand," said Banderas. Banderas is a self-proclaimed soccer fan, but he successfully pitched the baseball. "I got to the guy and I grabbed the ball and I'm really happy," he added.

The action film features Sylvester Stallone, who is on a mission to take down Mel Gibson, who plays the Expendables co-founder turned arms dealer. Younger and newer tech-savvy recruits have been added to the action-packed mission, including Kellan Lutz, who plays John Smilee. But the mission wouldn't get accomplished without the old timers. "Listen to the advice of your elders. That's for sure," said Lutz. "With a stronger team, when the veterans come to rescue us rookies, we have our full family."

Lutz was joined in Miami by Antonio Banderas, who plays Galgo, and boxer-turned-actor Victor Ortiz who plays Mars. Ortiz said he was caught off guard with the proposal for his first Hollywood movie. "It's some dude. It's some weird name. I don't know. Sylvester Stallone? I said excuse me? As in Rocky Balboa?" said Ortiz.

Unlike Ortiz, Banderas is a familiar face in Hollywood, who said his character Galgo allowed him to play a role different from his typical dark and romantic roles. "It gave me the opportunity to do something that I love to do and I don't get offered," said Banderas.

On and off the screen, these actors all agreed that it was a testosterone-fueled experience. "You know, I wasn't doing keg stands everyday. It was less serious and more fun," said Lutz.

The Expendables 3 hits theaters Friday.
