The food and drug administration has approved a non-invasive, DNA-based test for colon cancer.
It provides an option for some people who do not want the more invasive colonoscopy screening test.
The new test called “colo-guard” is for patients with a low risk for developing the disease. It checks for DNA mutations in stool samples that can be a sign for cancerous or pre-cancerous growths.
Patients who test positive for the mutations would have to undergo a colonoscopy to confirm the results.
