Teen helps rescue 4-month-old dog from Hingham harbor

SCITUATE, Mass. (WHDH) - A 4-month-old puppy was forced to doggie paddle after a wave sent it overboard in Hingham.

It all happened Saturday when Gillian Kirsch was on a boat with her family and two dogs.

"We thought maybe he put his paws up on the side of the boat and just got bounced out when we hit a wave,” Kirsch said.

The family and harbormaster spent two hours searching. As they were starting to lose hope they got a very happy phone call.

"We just thought it was a bird at first and we thought it was injured because it was swimming weird and we went a little closer. I was like dad, that's a dog. So he reached over and scooped it out of the water,” Charlie Connors said.

The family had a life vest for their 10-pound shipoo but they say she had out grown it.

"Thank you. I don't know what else to say just,” Kirsch said when she met Charlie.

The dog is named Tuukka, after Boston Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask.

"I'm just glad I was able to do something good for the day.  It makes me feel good,” Charlie said.
