Man reports armed robbery near Alewife MBTA station

Posted: Updated:
ARLINGTON, Mass. (WHDH) - Police near the Alewife MBTA station are warning people to be on the lookout after an armed robbery.

Around 9:30 Wednesday night a man was walking on the bicycle path at Thorndike Field when two masked men approached him, one of them carrying a knife.

The two robbers made off with the victim's backpack, which contained his laptop and some books. The victim was not hurt during the attack.

Other people who walk in the area say they avoid the path at night.

“I've never felt threatened or unsafe but I think it is a little different at night, but I think I would be reluctant to be here at night anyway,” Christine Olin said.

Police haven't connected this to other recent robberies but they said they did notify Cambridge and MBTA police.

Anyone who was in the area and may have seen something, or anyone with any information about this robbery is urged to call Arlington Police at (781) 643-1212.
