Hawaii's governor says state is ready for storms

Posted: Updated:
HONOLULU (AP) - Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie says his state is prepared for the back-to-back hurricanes swarming toward the islands.

During a news conference on Thursday hours before the storm was set to make landfall, state Attorney General David Louie promised that Saturday's primary will go forward as planned.

Abercrombie, a Democrat, is running for re-election.

Abercrombie said the National Guard is at the ready and state and local governments were closing offices, schools and transit services across Hawaii. Emergency shelters are being opened across the state.

Hurricane Iselle is on track to make landfall Thursday afternoon and Hurricane Julio is tracking close behind.
