Cyclist dies in car crash in West Barnstable

WEST BARNSTABLE, Mass. (WHDH) - A bicyclist has died after being hit by a car in West Barnstable Wednesday night.

The victim is a reported foreign exchange student, a 21-year-old from Kazakhstan.

According to Barnstable police, the driver was getting off Route 6 onto Route 132 and was merging with the road when the bicycle came up in front of her. The victim hit the windshield and landed on the street. Footage from the scene shows the car with a cracked windshield where the cyclist made impact.

The victim was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with life threatening injuries, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police are investigating at the scene with accident reconstruction specialists. There is no word if charges will be filed.

The Kazakhstan consulate has been notified.
