Cell phone video captures Revere tornado

REVERE, Mass. (WHDH) -

Residents of Revere were going about their normal business Monday morning when an EF2 tornado struck, forcing them to take cover.

That meant some people were trapped in their houses, others at work. Nicole Defeo was at Walgreens with her 83-year-old grandmother.

“Just the huge bang and then the lights went off and you hear everyone start screaming and the doors and the noise. Everyone was in shock,” Defeo said.

While inside she filmed 15 seconds of the tornado, which lasted a total of four minutes.

“Paper was flying outside then all the Walgreens paper inside was flying all through the aisles, glass was flying then you saw a fence fly by,” she said.

One man left his child in the car and he wanted to go grab the boy but the wind was too strong. Others were trying to get in.

“There were some people outside trying to run in but with the Walgreens door banging back and forth and the window shattering people trying were to duck but it was hard.”

After the storm passed the parking lot was littered with car parts, building materials and pieces of nearby yards. There was also a woman who had been hit in the head with flying debris.
