100 students inside Revere High School as tornado hits

Posted: Updated:
REVERE, Mass. (WHDH) - Students from Revere were inside the high school taking classes when an EF2 tornado ripped through the town and damaged the school.

The superintendent said more than 100 students were inside as the storm blew outside with winds up to 120 miles per hour.

“They were nervous, I could see my friends shaking,” said Porfirio Barientos, one of the students inside the school.

Surveillance cameras at the high school showed the scene as countless trees snapped, the sidewalk ripped up and 15 cars sustained broken windows.

“I never thought it was a tornado. I thought it was just another rain storm. I’ve been a teacher for 31 years in the same room and I’ve seen them come and go,” said Joanna McKenna, a Revere High math teacher.

Crews spent Monday afternoon cleaning up and they expected the job to take several more days.

No students were injured inside the school and classes were expected to take place as scheduled Tuesday.
