Abigail Hernandez's mother talks about reunion

Posted: Updated:
The mother of a New Hampshire teen that was missing for months is speaking out about her daughter's disappearance and the emotional return home.

Zenya Hernandez is obviously relieved to have her daughter back home, but there are still so many unanswered questions about what happened to her back in October and where she's been for the past nine months.

Her mother was shocked by her physical appearance.

"She was very thin. Very pale. Had a look I had never seen before..it will haunt me for the rest of my life," she said.

In a video, Hernandez talked about the reunion.

"We just looked at each other. And then we hugged. And I just said: 'thank god you're home. Thank god you're home,'" Hernandez said in an exclusive TODAY interview.

Police have questioned both Abigail and Zenya nearly everyday since she returned home but because of the ongoing investigation, they can't share details about what happened. The mother is protecting her daughter from rumors surrounding her disappearance.

"The majority of people somehow believe she was pregnant. I believe she did not know the individual," Zenya said.

Police are now searching for a man in connection with her disappearance. A drawing based on a description of the person who Abigail says abducted her.

Abigail thanked those who searched tirelessly for her in a statement saying: "My gratitude is beyond words. It's an incredible feeling to be home and I believe in my heart that your homes and prayers played a major role in my release."

New Hampshire Attorney General Joseph Foster issued a statement and said that law enforcement officials must now obtain satisfactory answers to the questions surrounding Abigail's disappearance and nine month absence.
