Clouds and hazy sun are mixed throughout today as southwest winds increase this afternoon and temperatures warm into the mid 80s. The humidity is still modest today, but will increase tonight. If you’re heading to the beach, the southwest wind does increase enough to hold back a sea breeze, and that means temps for many beaches from the South Shore to the southern Maine coast, reach 80+ degrees. The exception to that will be Cape Ann (upper 70s) and Cape Cod (mid to upper 70s).
What we’re watching for the second half of the weekend is a warm front that approaches from the west. The front will increase the humidity and instability on Sunday, leading to occasional showers and storms to fire. They will be scattered in nature, and that means we’ll have some dry hours too, and even some breaks of midday-afternoon sun possible. The issue is, if we catch a few hours of some sun in the afternoon, the daytime heating helps unsettle the air mass and allows for some strong storms to fire, especially in western New England. For what it’s worth, the Storms Prediction Center has us in the slight risk area for severe storms. We’ll keep an eye to the sky.
Monday will feature similar conditions in terms of higher humidity and the risk of scattered storms.
The high humidity and storms slide just to our east by mid-late week, allowing for drier weather and lower humidity.
