Fall River family thankful for officer who saved boy

Fall River, Mass. (WHDH) - A Fall River boy is saying thanks to an unknown police officer who helped him escape a massive fire.

Jayden Khek and the rest of his family were on their way out of the building when he lost his glasses.

“I was on the edge of the fire escape because the smoke, it felt like it was burning my skin,” Jayden said.

He was trapped for a short time, at first his family had no idea.

“My son, I thought he came down too but he got pushed to the side and everyone ran down first,” Jayden’s dad Sal Khek said.

The officer ran upstairs, grabbed Jayden and then pulled him to safety.

“It’s just a lot to take in right now. Everything is overwhelming. I’m just happy i have my family and my kids here with me. Thank you for helping my little boy, we're all safe,” Jayden’s mom Stacy Arruda said.

The family hopes they will be able to get in touch with the officer and thank him face to face.
