FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WHDH) -
It’s still a few days before Danny Nickerson’s 6th birthday but the Foxborough boy has already received nearly 50,000 cards.
Last October Danny was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and his family says the cards from across the world are a nice break from worrying.
“It’s a wonderful distraction. It’s an amazing distraction. We have an MRI coming up on Wednesday and usually the week before we get physically sick. The two of us, we’re not eating, we’re not sleeping. We’re just sad, sick, crying, emotional and nervous. It’s just been a great distraction this past couple weeks to be away from everything and be distracted from how sad we really are,” Danny’s mom Carley Nickerson said.
Many residents of Foxborough went to the local post office to drop off their cards for Danny.
"He's a special boy who has a special place in our hearts, and we're thinking of him," one resident said after dropping off her card.
The post office said Danny received more cards on Thursday than the rest of the town combined. The family has rented a truck that they will use to get the haul on Friday.
