We were stuck in the middle today: halfway between the dry air and the muggy air. Fortunately for us, there wasn’t a lot of umph in the atmosphere to maintain steady rain or storms. Nonetheless, a few sprinkles did flare up areawide in the afternoon.

Dry air continues to funnel in over the next two days steering away the muggies, the storm systems and pop-up showers. Sea breezes may weasel in along the coast tomorrow, but it’s hardly a reason to avoid the beaches.

Clouds will increase on Saturday to the point where the late afternoon/evening turn mostly cloudy. Showers – and possible storms – will wait, however, until Saturday night and early Sunday.

So the 25,000 dollar question is how washed out is Sunday? Not too. While we start wet, there may be a few hours of sun late morning and early afternoon. But, since the air is so unstable, any sun will aid and abet storm formation. And some of them could get nasty.

Monday is looking like the wettest day of the next 7-10. Close to a washout with coolish 70s for highs.

Been a strange summer, eh? While we have seen four 90° days in Boston, it’s being remembered for its frequent cooldowns and mini warmups. While July goes out on that note, August may start more with a prolonged period of muggy weather.

These are the dog days afterall.
