Missing New Hampshire teen home after 9 months

Posted: Updated:
CONWAY, N.H. (WHDH) -

A 15-year-old girl who disappeared while on her way home from school last October is safely home with her family.

The state attorney general says Abigail Hernandez of Conway was reunited with her family on Sunday evening.

Police said Abigail was last seen Oct. 9 after leaving Kennett High School in Conway. Police say she walked her normal route toward home and sent several texts between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. But she never made it home.

Police did reveal several months ago that she had written home to her mother, but the contents of that letter were never made public.

"She's just relieved. She’s so happy and she really wants to thank everybody for all of the help,” Amanda Smith, a friend of Abigail’s mother, said.

Police did not release any information about how the reunion happened or any information about Abigail's disappearance. More information could be released as soon as Tuesday as police continue their criminal investigation.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
