Cambridge Police warn of attack near Fresh Pond

Posted: Updated:
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WHDH) - Cambridge Police warned the public about a sexual assault in the area around Fresh Pond.

A woman was out for a walk around 8 p.m. Tuesday when she said a heavy-set man on a BMX bike approached her.

The woman told police the man rode by her, then put on a mask, turned his bike around and attacked her.

The woman was able to run away but the man chased her before he fell off his bike.

"We want to get the word out, especially to anybody walking, riding or jogging in that area, that someone is up to some serious business," Cambridge Police Deputy Superintendent Steven DeMarco said.

The incident surprised runners in the area.

“I wouldn’t imagine something like that happening around here because I feel pretty safe most of the time. That’s really scary,” Maya Gurung said.

“It stinks to hear something like that when this is such a nice area,” Simone Chuda said.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the Cambridge Police Department at (617) 349-3384.
