Suspect arrested in robbery of Somerville elderly woman

SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WHDH) - Somerville Police announced on Friday that they have arrested the person they believe is responsible for robbing an elderly woman.

Jarone McKinney, of Cambridge was taken into custody without incident on Thursday by Boston Police.

McKinney allegedly ripped $710 in Social Security money out of the woman's hands as she sat on a bench outside Twin City Mall on July 4.

McKinney was charged with one count of unarmed robbery. He was arraigned in Somerville District Court on Friday and was held on $5,000 cash bail.

Officers and civilian workers at the Somerville Police Department collected $1,800 for the victim.
