New sitcom 'Welcome to Sweden' premiers tonight on NBC

LOS ANGELES (WHDH) - Making his TV acting debut Greg Poehler shares his real life experiences in the new NBC show "Welcome to Sweden."

His sister and executive producer Amy lends a hand in the first episode where we learn he has decided to give up everything for love.

But in meeting his girlfriend’s family for the first time in her home country he realized perhaps he didn't think everything through.

“The first episode is exactly what happened to me my fist day in Sweden when I visited my girlfriends family,” he said. “For the first time I got directly off the plane and when to her families summer house and was greeted by about 30 of her closest relatives who were waiting to give me shots and get me as dunk as possible and take a sauna with me.”

The show, already shown in Sweden, has made Poehler a star

“A lot of Swedes watch the show so we got kind of Super Bowl numbers so it’s good to be able to come to the US and hide for a bit,” the star said.

While in New York for the interview he makes his way back to his hometown of Burlington quite often.

“My parents still love there so I tend to hang out in my hometown but one of my friends owns the Bostonian which is a party bus in around Boston so every now and then I climb onto that and it turns into a gong show.”
