NYPD: Mom of baby abandoned in subway in custody

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (AP) - New York City police have found the mother suspected of abandoning a baby at a Manhattan subway station.

Police said the 20-year-old woman is being questioned. She was found around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday near 72nd Street and Broadway.

No charges were immediately filed. The investigation is continuing.

Police said the woman pushed the baby's stroller onto the platform from a northbound No. 1 train when it arrived at the Columbus Circle station. She then reportedly got back onto the train.

Authorities said the baby was 6 to 7 months old. She was examined at Roosevelt Hospital. Police say there were no apparent signs of trauma.

The baby is in the care of the Administration for Children's Services.
