LAWRENCE, Mass. (WHDH) -
Police say they have recovered weapons, a fuse and powders from a Lawrence home and that there was no threat to neighbors Sunday.
A 40-year-old man who lived there died in May, and as his mother was cleaning out his apartment, she found hand guns and called police.
"She called Lawrence Police and asked if they'd come take possession of the handguns. When the Lawrence Police arrived at the scene to take possession of the handguns, they found some other items that concerned them that were suspicious," said Chief Joe Soloman of the Methuen Police Department.
Methuen and Lawrence police responded with a hazardous materials team and Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad also arrived at the scene.
Police evacuated neighbors and blocked off nearby streets as a precaution.
Police issued an all-clear on Sunday, ending an hours-long evacuation of the neighborhood.
