PEABODY, Mass. (WHDH) - Statues that were stolen from the grave of a young girl have been returned.

The angel statues had been missing since earlier this week from her grave at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Peabody but on Saturday, the family found the angels back in their rightful place.

The 10-year-old girl's mother put the statues there. She said she likes to keep the place special for her daughter who lost her battle with a rare form of kidney cancer 10 years ago.

Peabody Police said they were taking the crime "very seriously" due to the nature of the incident. They are asking anyone to contact the police if they see anyone suspicious around the cemetery.

People who are planning to leave items near graves are encouraged to keep the price point low.
