Ashland boy suffers head injury after falling off car

Posted: Updated:
ASHLAND, Mass. (WHDH) -  A 7-year-old boy is recovering after falling off his dad’s SUV Monday night in Ashland while at a church gathering.

Police say the boy jumped on the car as dad was about to pull out of the driveway. Dad didn’t notice and when he drove away the boy fell off.

"When he went forward the kid was stepping on the rear bumper and that’s when he fell,” Luis Morales, the church’s pastor, said.

When EMTs arrived the boy was unconscious after suffering a head injury. He was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester where he is expected to recover.

"You know children are children, they always find something interesting to do. He probably thought it was cool to be hanging on the back of the car and he fell and landed his face," Morales said.

Police officers say they are still investigating the incident but said they don’t expect to press charges.

The boy's condition is improving so fast his mother said he could be released from the hospital Wednesday.
